There are certain things you can do to ensure the strength of your home. One important aspect of that is gutter cleaning. It is essential to protect your home from water damage which would ultimately affect the walls, roof an the foundation.

It is essential not to overlook the importance of gutter cleaning. You’d much rather put a little extra effort to clear your gutter out instead of paying for home repairs later!

Consequences of Clogged Gutters

To help you understand better, here’s a list of reasons why you should unclog your gutter.

Leaky Roof

Replacing or even repairing your roof is a task nobody want to deal with. It is best you avoid such situations with your roof in advance by projection it from any sort of water damage. If you don’t clean your gutter, it will get clogged and the rainwater will have no place to drain. It may flow onto your roof and accumulate there. This ultimately will result in the water soaking through the roof and into the interiors of your home.

It’s dangerous when this happens in your home because it may also damage electrical components. Hence, to avoid this you can simply clear out your gutter from my time to time.

Sagging Metal

Unclogged gutters generally lose strength after some time. The metal loses integrity after a period of time and causes leakage through the gutter. It’s more of a task to repair the gutter system rather than simply cleaning it out occasionally.

Landscape Damage

There is a good chance that dirty gutters can affect the surrounding lawn and plants. Due to improper drainage, a lot of the water may leak out and become stagnant in your landscape. It is also harmful for some plants as they could die due to overwatering. Some of this water may freeze and make the driveway slippery during extremely cold winters. So, especially for those of you that have children in your household, it’s best to prevent any of this water from pooling around.

Pest Manifestation

Dirty gutters attract many insects, rodents and other pests. If you don’t clear out all the moist leaves from your gutter, they’ll be an important source of food for pests. Once they invade your gutter system, they’ll mostly come for your house next!

Mold Formation

Not cleaning your gutter leads to a lot of water being accumulated and standing for a long period of time. The leaves decompose in the gutter and make it dirty, promoting formation of mold. Especially during wet weather, mold formation is quite common and may also get inside your house. So, you can prevent mold formation right in the start by cleaning your gutter out a couple times a year.

Weakening Foundation

Problems with the foundation is the last issue you’d want to face as a homeowner. The repairs are expensive, time-taking and simple a pain! Along with a good cleaning of the gutter, you can also adjust the downspouts away from your home. This way, your foundation will be less susceptible to water damage.
