Driveway Cleaning: When to do it yourself and when to call the Professionals

21st March 2022

Cleaning your concrete driveway is no easy task – especially if you neglected it for too long, or you were too busy and wrapped in meeting all day to even look at it. But now you’re wondering – should I try to clean the concrete driveway myself or call in professionals to do deep power wash cleaning?

Here are some scenarios in which you could handle driveway cleaning without professional help:

Your driveway has been cleaned with a power wash cleaning tool recently

The so-called deep cleaning is good to be done at least once a year. But if the last power washing was a month or two ago, you don’t need to repeat the procedure.

Instead, you can use a mix of dishwashing soap and water, as well as household items and tools – brushes and rags, to refresh the look of the driveway.

There are no visible stains – if the surface of your driveway

is free of heavy stains such as grease, gasoline, oils, or traces of tires, you can save money on deep cleaning and do it by yourself on a sunny day.

Driveway Cleaning: When to do it yourself and when to call the Professionals

When to call professionals?

When its been an year since the last professional cleaning of your driveway.

You can schedule it during the annual spring/autumn cleaning at home. Mark a date/month of the year on your calendar or to-do list to call Driveway Cleaning professionals for your annual deep cleaning.

When there are heavily soiled areas and stubborn stains.

You can try to get rid of pets, but if they are not effective, professional services would save the day. Do not let the stains “stay” on your driveway, since they can “dig” deeper and deeper into the concrete. As a result, they may even be impossible to clean.

When mold or mildew re-appear… again and again.

There are many methods to get rid of mold or mildew at home, but sometimes the best ones seem to be ineffective. If after a few attempts to get rid of the unpleasant moldy spots, they still reappear – in the same or other places – it is good to call professionals to take care of it. The sooner they come, the sooner you will forget about its existence.

When you just do not have enough time

Cleaning your driveway yourself would take at least an hour depending on its size and level of dirtiness.

However, if you call a professional company, this would be quick and hassle-free for you.

When you should not clean your driveway:

When it is too cold

When temperatures are sub-zero – avoid cleaning your driveway with water and detergents as this can make it an extremely dangerous “slide”. Wait for the “ice age” to pass and then you can take care of it.

When it is too hot outside

Avoid cleaning on the hottest days of the year, as the concrete heats up quickly and in combination and more invasive detergents can be dangerous to you and your health.

As soon as the concrete sealant was applied to your driveway

After a sealing procedure the concrete driveway should be cleaned right way, and you are absolutely sure that the sealant has settled before using either stiff brush or power washing service on your concrete driveway.
