Your driveway can easily talk for you. All one needs to look at is its state and condition, and then bam! The passersby can even make accurate assumptions of you. Not to forget, your driveway can also help in increasing the resale value of your home. You’re probably up for this game and ready to maintain your driveway. But your wallet may not seem to fancy the idea of spending large amounts of hard-earned cash for a driveway. So, compromise with your wallet and try these inexpensive cleaning techniques given below.

There are different methods of cleaning a driveway, depending on the material used. Therefore, the cleaning methods vary accordingly. Here, we will focus on four main driveway types: Asphalt, concrete, gravel, and brick driveways.

Asphalt Driveway

Things you will need- baking soda, stiff broom, brush, and a garden hose.

Make sure you begin the cleaning process by sweeping the leaves and dirt on the driveway. Next, mix the baking soda with water and let the semi-liquid paste rest upon the greasy stains. After a few minutes, brush the area smeared by the paste. Follow this step by rinsing off the dirty paste using the garden hose. This method protects the nearby lawn and plants as well. For maintaining the condition of your asphalt driveway, it is advisable to seal it regularly.

Concrete Driveway

Things you will need- broom, cat litter, detergent powder, a brush, and a garden hose.

Begin by sweeping clean the concrete from any debris or fallen leaves. Next, use the cat litter to absorb away any grease present on the surface. After the litter wicks the oil, scoop it out. Apply the semi-liquid solution of detergent powder and water to the remaining stains. After letting it rest for a few minutes, use the brush to scrub the grime away. Follow this step by washing the concrete clean with the garden hose. For maintaining the condition of your concrete driveway, it is advisable to sweep it regularly.

Gravel Driveway

Things you will need- Yard rake, weed killer, wheel barrel, and geotextile fabric.

Begin by raking the gravel clean from weed or large debris. Collect the gravel into the wheel barrel for cleaning it with water. After this step, place the gravel on the geotextile fabric for quick drying. After the stones are dry and ready, layer the ground with them. For the final step, spray weed killer on the gravel driveway to avoid excessive growth of weeds. For maintaining the condition of your gravel driveway, it is advisable to rake the driveway regularly.

Brick Driveway

Things you will need- broom, oxygenated bleach, a brush, and a garden hose with sprayer.

As always, begin the cleaning process by sweeping the driveway. Apply the combined mixture of oxygenated bleach and water onto the driveway surface. Let it rest, after which you can use the scrub to brush off the dirt and stains. And finally, rinse clean the whole driveway. Avoid adding water pressure in particular locations, as it may damage the driveway. Make sure there is an even spray of water to clean the brick driveway.

Driveway cleaning services that charge less

Apart from cleaning the driveway on your own, you can always choose to hire a professional cleaning service that charges lesser fees. A cleaning service will have more experience and more equipment; hence you can leave this work in their hands for the low price they charge. And this method will also allow you to focus on other important matters.
