uPVC Cleaning – how to do it by yourself

UPVC Windows are the best choice for your home if you want something easy to clean, easy to maintain, which not only takes a few seconds to be brilliantly clean but also stays like that for a long time.

Of course, that doesn’t mean you don’t have to work hard to keep your UPVC Windows. If you have chosen white for your windows, you will often see dirt on them and you will want to grab a rag and remove it.

You do not need special detergents or devices to clean your Windows UPVC or doors unless they are heavily stained. In this article, we will give you some ideas on how to quickly and easily clean your UPVC Windows or doors at home.

Start by removing the dust

The first step in cleaning UPVC Windows or doors is to remove the accumulated dust. Why is this so important? Because if you skip this step you risk the dust getting into the smallest places on the windows, setting in, and it would be close to impossible to clean it later unless you disassemble the uPVC windows or doors. You can do it by using a vacuum cleaner with a small and soft cleaning head, so you do not damage or scratch the glass. Another option is to use a regular household dusting tool or a soft cleaning brush – as long as you do not apply too much pressure it will be fine.

We move on to cleaning with water and detergent

Once you’ve thoroughly cleaned UPVC Windows or doors of dust, it’s time to move on to “wet cleaning”. For this you will need:

  • A soft cloth or microfiber cloth
  • Mild soap of your choice
  • A bowl or bucket in which to mix your detergent with water
  • Household gloves
  • Soft toothbrush to clean the corners of the windows

In a bucket, mix your detergent with lukewarm water and mix well. Take the microfiber cloth, moisten it with the solution made, and start washing the windows from top to bottom. If they are really dirty, repeat the procedure several times, rinsing the towel frequently. You can use an extra-soft or baby toothbrush to clean around the edges and the small grooves of the windows, again using the soap and water mix.

Dry the window with a soft cloth or wait for it to dry on its own. After completing this step, you can use a window polish, sold in every store. If you do not have it available, then you can use a little rubbing alcohol to remove the traces of water droplets on the window.

Going the extra mile

You can easily finish the cleaning procedure with this previous step, but if you want to take even more care of your UPVC Windows or doors, then you will also need multi-purpose oil. UPVC Seals tend to crack over time, as the material from which they are made – rubber or silicone dries and cracks from direct sunlight. To avoid this, just apply 1-2 drops of multi-purpose oil after cleaning – this will keep them hydrated and prevent them from cracking.
